Biography Of Shaktikanta Das RBI Governor

On 12 December 2018, Shaktikanta Das becomes the 25th governor of RBI India for three years. He is an IAS officer of the batch of Tamil Nadu cadre 1980. Who got retired from the IAS in 2017, severed, many positions in India before appointed as the governor. According to businesstoday reports his salary which he gets as a governor is 2.87 lakh per month.

Born, Study And Career

Shaktikanta Das was born on 26 February 1957 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha in an average family. After completing his graduate(BA) and a post-graduate(MA) degree in history from St.Stephens college at the University of Delhi. Then Shaktikanta Das cleared the civil service exam of IAS and got posted in Tamilnadu. Talking about his qualification he also did an advance financial management course from IIM Bangalore and did development banking and institutional credit from NIBM Pune.

Shaktikanta Das also did a diploma in basic project management from the administrative staff college of India. And did training from the IIM Calcutta along with two program implementation courses from the Himachal Pradesh of the institute of public administration and the institute of management in government.

As An IAS Officer

He has served for the Tamil Nadu government and the government for India Like as principal secretary (industries), special commissioner (Revenue), Secretary (commercial Taxes). And as the district magistrate and collector of Dindigul and Kanchipuram district in the Tamil Nadu government.

He was also part of GST during the implementation. And, in 2016 after the demonetization by the government of India Das with Urjit Patel launched new notes of 500 and 1000 rupees.

Das has been also appointed for many posts in the UPA and NDA governments, Union Economic Affairs secretory, union revenue secretary, union fertilizer secretory, special secretary in the department of the economic affairs of the ministry of finance. And as a joint secretary in the department of expenditure of the Ministry of finance of the Indian government.

Das is known as the most powerful civil servant of India, and based on his performance, he has been appointed as the union revenue secretory by the prime minister who led the appointment committee of the cabinet in June 2014. Then he was appointed by ACC as the union economic affair secretory in august 2015.

Awards And Achievements 

-In the year 2020, got Central Banker of the year 

-He has been also appointed as sherpa G20 development, from 2017 to 31 December 2018

Contributions In The Banking Sector

Shaktikanta Das got the title Central Banker of the year in 2020 for how he dealt with the challenges as a governor. After the previous governor resigns from the post, all the burden of the banking sector came on the shoulders of the new governor Shaktikanta Das. In 2019 the Indian banking sector has been faced many challenges such as financial fraud rise in NPA, credit growth, etc. Even inflation was growing up, those issues were handled by him very well.

Controversies 

1.One of Shaktikanata das batchmates who was his junior, criticized him by tweeting, what a coincidence historian will become an economist now. 

2.Even one of the politicians accused that Shaktikanta das is very corrupt.

3.In 2016 he was criticized for his involvement in the allotment of land to the American company Sanmina sci corporation in a deal, during which he was serving in the government of Tamil Nadu.

Conclusion 

At last, the one thing I wanted to mention is that most people refer to him by saying non-economist. But you must know an IAS officer knows every subject. Especially talking about him he is a scholar person. Who got the degree in many fields and handled many positions. So it will be unfair to tell him that he is not worthy of this post.
